Black Lives Matter Fundraising
BLUElab has always been an organization focused on helping communities locally and internationally and have now created a plan to continuously do so. Starting Summer 2020, BLUElab council has decided to allocate funds every year to support a cause our members feel passionate about. During the Winter 2020 semester, BLUElab donated to help support those struggling with COVID-19.
In the wake of the recent events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement, BLUElab has decided to match donations up to $1000 dollars to contribute to several different organizations helping the movement.

We aim to ensure that incidents of discrimination and bias are documented and addressed in order to create a culture of accountability and address concerns surrounding inclusion. We would also like to educate all of our members of the DEI plan we have drafted and would like to encourage an open conversation with regards to this plan. We are working on documenting incidents of discrimination and bias, we would like to arm members and leaders in BLUElab to know how to spot incidents of bias and how to deal with them appropriately, specifically with the existing systems at UM.
We recognize that our club can do better. While we work internationally and locally with a diverse group of peoples and cultures, we realize that our membership may not have always reflected this. We commit to having an ongoing conversation about implicit bias, and how we can better support marginalized communities. We are committing to a plan for the upcoming year and in our new constitution to make our work more reflective of our values. We welcome all constructive criticism and feedback.

Integrate NYC
We, the students, are the best experts on the impacts of this segregation and inequality. At IntegrateNYC, we are also designers of solutions, advocates for transformative policy, and visionaries for a more just future. We have learned from the past, and we do not want to stop at desegregation. True, meaningful integration requires a transformation in our school system that centers students and communities of color. We have developed and are advocating for 5Rs of Real Integration to create lasting, revolutionary change in our school system. We also stand for Real Representation of young people in decision making at local, city, state, and federal levels.
