Current Focus: After their recent travels to Mexico City and the Yucatan Peninsula for a partner and communication assessment trip, Biogas International will be planning a needs assessment in conjunction with IRRI this upcoming school year.
Mission: The BLUELab Biogas International Team is committed to developing and implementing sustainable designs to address energy needs with attention to social responsibility. Our mission is to build partnerships in order to empower rural communities to restore their environment, improve their health outcomes, and achieve economic sustainability. We believe that simple, green, and inexpensive solutions can have large impacts.
Vision: In coming years, the technologies the BLUElab Biogas International Team develops will become parts of sustainably produced biogas digestion systems for farmers throughout Mexico and Central America. Members of the team will have the experience and confidence to advocate for sustainability and human-centered design practices in their professional lives.
Team History: The Biogas Team has been in place for over a decade and has worked on biogas digester technologies both locally and abroad. Biogas International has worked both in Liberia and Mexico with local communities and larger environmental organizations. After working with Sistema Biobolsa, the team transitioned to a partnership with IRRI, the International Institute for Renewable Resources. The team conducted a community and partner assessment trip to Yucatan this Summer (2018), learning about installed biogas applications, and running tests with sensors developed last year.
